TV: your guide to 2010

Sugarloaf Summer’s a great time for hanging out, going to gigs, and socialising but it’s a bit blah television-wise with endless repeats and empty slots where your favourite shows used to be. Thankfully the summer hiatus is nearly at an end. Check out the following shows that are already, or shortly will be, returning to our screens.

Shortland Street TV2 weeknights at 7pm (like we need to tell you)

Shortland Street’s 2010 season (starting 18 January) promises to be full of drama …Especially after the Guilty Secrets campaign they've been running. Catch up on any episodes you've missed online, and keep watching for the 19th season of one of New Zealand's favourite soaps.

American Idol TV2 .

The latest season of the unique talent show on Earth features a new judge - Ellen DeGeneres. Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson and the acid-tounged Simon Cowell will return so expect even more arguing and disagreement in between bursts of song and Ryan Seacrest. Cowell will leave Idol at the end of this season.

Modern Family - Check out the ABC home page for this show, which has screened more than 100 episodes in the United States.
The Good Wife - Stars Julianna Marguiles as the mother of 14-year-old Zach and 13-year-old Grace. Chris Noth is the bad dad. Read more about the background of this show.
NZ's Hottest Home Baker - Hosted by Colin Mathura-Jeffree, who was on NZ's next Top Model,, the competition is the latest reality TV competition. Could be fun!
Trauma - Kiwi Cliff Curtis plays a helicopter pilot in this NBC series - look out for plenty of action. Read character bios and get episode guides from the NBC website.
