Z Club at Avonside

by Kendra Moran

Avonside's Z Club consists of about 15 young women who support various local and international charities. They volunteer to help in places where most people do not have time and raise money for charities of the club's choice. It is a branch of  Zonta International which sends people to run and support the club.

Z Club members include: Megan Halligan, president; Ashley Poole, secretary; Ellie Carter; Samantha Ryder; Caitlin Burnett-Jones; Alexia Parker; Rachel Cooper; and Kendra Moran.

2009 Charity: DebRA NZ

DebRA NZ supports EB (Epidermolysis Bollisa) sufferers whom skin is referred to as ‘fragile as a butterflies wing’. For EB suffers the touch of clothing tears off their skin, their feet blister under their own weight, a tiny strand of hair in their eye makes it swell and blister, their throats rips and scars when normal food is consumed and for three hours every day they have to have their wounds treated and dressed.

For most of us we can not even comprehend what these EB sufferers are going through. The ZClub recognised DebRA NZ as an extremely worthwhile cause as they provide essential help to children, youth and adults suffering with EB. We are currently deciding the best way to fundraise for DebRA NZ. If you have any suggestions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at morankm@avonside.school.nz.
