Boy on the phoneYour thoughts about bullying

In our May 2006 competition we asked How much of a problem is bullying in your school (or workplace)?

First we asked you to rank how much of a problem bullying is in your school (or workplace) on a five point scale:

Rank %
None 12
Minor 35
Average 35
Some 13
Major 5

Then we gave you some space to make a comment:

Your Comments

(N.B. comments are unedited and unattributed).

A lot of the time, its bulliyng in disguise, and teachers can't reconise it, rather annoying.

At our school girls are worse than boys at bullying

billing maybe a big problem in our shcool but this is only 2 the beginners at my shcool

Bullies tend to either drop out or mature by year 13.

Bullying is a concern at my school we even made our stage challenge about it!!

Bullying is a serious problem at the school here, I don't know whether I'm allowed to post the name of it or not but you can probably guess at any rate. Out of the miriad of school's i've been to in NZ, this one has to take the cake as one of the worst for bullying, not only because of the general opinions of the township but because of a portion of the teachers and faculties lack of respect for anything other than rugby.

Bullying is and will probably always be a problem in schools, but I think that teachers could possibly doing more to prevent it.

Bullying is quite serious and kids can take it too far and start threating and some can begin to question the methods of suicide.

Every where you go whether it is school or in the workplace bullying will be experienced by at least one student or yourself or one co-worker (or yourself again). Bullying is quite high in New Zealand waste of time bullying someone just means you have to make someone feel like crap in order to feel better bout yourself.. Sad really :(

I am very cloest to leaving this scholl as all you hear at interval and lunch is people bullying each other.

i do most of it.

I don't my teacher

I find that at my school, the problem isn't with bullying (eg. purposeful verbal or physical abuse), but with general bitchiness that can happen between any two people. Hardly anyone is directly targeted all the time.

I go to an all girls high school so there is quite alot of verbal bullying. You usually need to watch your back

I HAHE BEEN BULLIED ONCE BUT I GOT IT SORTED

i like the cock pople tees me becuze in not gode at englich speling and i hav a crutch on our bioligey techer

I think that all people that are getting bullied need to stand up and tell someone, I know its hard to do because i got bullied from std 4 to now, And now that ive left school i relise that i should have stood up for myself.

I was bullied in my last schools for long periods of time and it drastically changed everything about me and I had to change in ways that I wasn't happy with. I have noticed since moving to New Zealand that at my school the problem is far less and every seems happier.

In my school, theres hardly any bulling and i was very pleased any relieved!! Thank you!! :)

it may not be bad at our school but bullyig should not be in any school it hurts seeing people around you gettig bullied and you try and stop the bully but then it comes back at you!we need to stop bullying before it gets really serious!

It's interesting how much bullying in my school happens during mufti days, when people harass others who don't have brand clothes that were bought with a lot of money. I found the choice of prize for this very interesting, therefore.

It's mainly catty comments and email and text bullying and it's can even be worse than the physical kind. It's really horrible and the problem needs to be stopped!

it's not hard out just a few individuals who obviously have some problems

Ive left school but at my sisters school it goes on like it always has, its more of a problem because nothing is done at the school by the teachers/principle/bot

One would think that by the time a student reached year 13, bullying would cease to be such a big problem. However, contrary to popular opinion, at this age it is just as much, if not more so, of a problem than ever before. Despite the school of thought that as children grow up and mature they are less likely to tease others is completely unjustified. Granted, at an older age any bullying that occurs is less direct. With over a decade of schooling under their belt, teenagers at an older age are far more subtle and indeed clever with their bullying antics. With such devices as computers and cellphones now readily available, there are new, more innovative modes of harrassment. Setting up a website designed to tarnish one's reputation, txting or pxting friends harmful gossip are literally a few clicks of a button away. By no means have schoolteachers' monotonous, droning lectures regarding the harmful effects of bullying been taken on board. Bullying is not, as many would like to believe, a problem of the past. It has merely been buried beneath the weight of such (supposedly) more important issues as drug abuse, alchoholism and smoking.

Rangi is a real caring environment and bullying is not a problem. That's why I love rangi so much.

There is alot of bullying going on in schools and it is a big problem especially amongst the teens! To be honest there is nothing that people can do to stop bullying but there is something that we can so to prevent bullying from happening. Prevention is the first step to ending bullying and if we can all do that then it would be so awesome. I tend to see alot of racial bullying in schools, with kids being called nigger and chingy and all sorts of nasty names it sould be dealt with but teachers are busy with other things and etc! i would really love to see bullying die down because innocent kids are being hurt for the pleasure of others who enjoy bullying! SAY NO 2 BULLYING!!!

wheres the love?

why bully when u know wat it feels like
