New start for vegetarian youth group

Vege Group bannerIn the first of a regular series of reports, Kirsty will keep you up-to-date with local events and get-togethers. The Vegetarian Christchurch Youth Group is a group run by Tracey and Yolanda for vegetarian, vegan or wannabe young people.

Group expanding

Started nearly two years ago with half a dozen members aged 14 years or under, the group had to move to a larger venue at the end of last year.

We are now meeting once a month at St Albans School hall, which is considerably larger than the kitchen and living area we used before. Now with 17 regular members, monthly meetings still involve games, a discussion or video on the awareness of animal rights, a Website of the Month, and cooking two meals – one healthy and one slightly less healthy.

New members welcome

New members – male or female, and between the ages of 10 and 15 years – are always welcome, and when our two leaders are away in the coming months a new leader will be arriving to carry on the group. For anyone wishing to go to the next meeting, it will be held at St Albans school hall (17 Sheppard Place) on March 14 and will start at 6.45pm.

A cost of $3 is needed to cover the cost of ingredients for the cooking. If you think you will have trouble getting to St Albans school for each meeting, you can do what some members of the group do and organise to carpool with another member who lives near you.
