Alex Swan and Fraser Gurney will be reviewing The Pulse's two advance copies of the new Star Wars book Clone Wars thanks to Random House.
The book was published on 8 August and the cool new animated film opened in mid-August.
The book (and movie) tells the story of young Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, his new Padawan Asohka, and his Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. They are on a mission to rescue the kidnapped son of Jabba the Hutt. But Count Dooku and the Separatists also want to rescue the baby Hutt - because whoever succeeds in returning Jabba's son to him will gain the support of the Hutts in the war between the Republic and the Separatists.
The book is written by Karen Traviss. She has received critical acclaim for her first novels City of Pearl, Crossing the Line, and The World Before. She is also the author of six other Star Wars titles.
Like any Star Wars story, this is a typical good versus evil battle with the usual extravagant technology and strange animals, plus familiar faces such as Anakin Skywalker and Count Dooku. There are also new characters such as Ashoka and Rotta, Jabba’s little Huttlet.
In the middle of a huge galactic war between the Republic and the Separatists, Jabba’s son Rotta is kidnapped by the Separatists (Baddies), who frame the Jedi (Goodies). The Jedi and the Clones have one day to rescue Rotta and return him to Jabba who will in turn grant the Republic vital access to the planets he controls.
Well-written and a fast pace. Strongly Recommended.
